Ever wonder what it would be like to own a campground?
So did we! For about 20 years, we have considered owning a campground. When our adult kids were young, we nearly bought a children's camp. We instead decided to go low-key and host a church camp for free for about 26 youth at our farm, planning all the activities, cooking and serving all the meals, handling all the arrangements. It was fun but exhausting!
The last few years have seen our campground dream come to fruition. Joining WACO (Wisconsin Association of Campground Owners) back in 2023, we nearly bought two separate campgrounds. Though disappointed at the time that they fell through, we are thrilled beyond measure to have hooked Anchor Campgrounds in beautiful Spooner, Wisconsin.
This week the campground owners across Wisconsin are actually RECOVERING from last week at the big WACO Convention in Stevens Point. Joining hundreds of professionals, from campground owners to campground employees, to vendors for everything from websites to playgrounds, we collaborated, shared ideas, and prepared for the season.
Preparing for our first season at Anchor Campgrounds has been exciting. Writing and rewriting the priority list, we finally decided on a few purchases this spring to enhance the 2025 season. We bought a new, much larger playground, to get the kids to enjoy good old-fashioned fun while the grownups look on in amusement, enjoying adult beverages, campfires and good company. Also coming to Anchor Campgrounds is a GAGA BALL PIT - if you haven't heard of Gaga Ball, you may be over a certain age! Don't worry, our Chief Ice Cream Scooper, age 12, can teach us all how to play this game that has become a hit at campgrounds everywhere. The cool part is that both kids AND adults can enjoy this one together. We are also working on a small campground store, to include the necessities like Diet Coke, tea and toilet paper, as well as a few fun items.
Stay tuned for more surprises for the 2025 season.
