Man's Best Friend Goes Camping

anchorcampgrounds

Man’s best friend.  Our dogs can run the gamut from our “fur baby” to our protector, from our in-house therapist to our working companion, from our hunting buddy to our fierce competitor, or sometimes just a loyal friend to lounge with us on the couch.

Meet Birdie – she has been nearly all of these to our family (though only a protector in her mind, as she only weighs 10 pounds) over the years.  From her puppy days of being Tammy’s training companion, to her competitive days of dog shows and field trials, to her hunting buddy outings when we venture out to the woods, Birdie is mainly our loyal friend now.  From riding with Mike to get breakfast in the morning (Birdie’s favorite is a sausage patty), to sitting on Hazel’s lap when she does math homework, to cuddling with Tammy after a hard day at work, Birdie is definitely our faithful buddy.

What makes a great camping dog?  This can vary dramatically, depending on the camping trip!  Birdie’s old “brother,” our Dachshund Roscoe, traveled with Mike and Matt all the way to the Arctic Ocean on a camping trip of epic proportions.  Roscoe mainly served to cuddle the fellas on their 8000 mile trip and alert them to anything unusual around the truck camper at night.  While Roscoe certainly could not take on a polar bear, he was the first to alert them of one coming over the horizon one morning while cooking breakfast on the frozen tundra.

For us, in a Wisconsin RV resort, the perfect camping buddy dog is your best friend.  Friendly to all, quiet with strangers, and loves to sit next to their master around the fire.  The perfect dog master, of course, picks up after Fido – no one wants even the perfect pooch’s poo on their shoe!

Coming to Anchor Campgrounds this year will be a small off-leash area for your canine companion.  We know that it is hard to leave your best friend at home when enjoying the Great Outdoors, and it is hard for your best friend to not be able to get the wiggles out!  Zoomies are welcome in our off-leash area and will help Fido be an even better camping buddy.  Watch for doggie poo bags in the campground store, coming in 2025, to make caring for your pooch nearly effortless.   We cannot wait to meet your best friend in 2025!
